Practical skills for our children - planting of trees and maize on the WEM compound

On Saturday, 27th May, our children planted together with ROHC’s farm team new trees on the WEM Compound. In the future, the trees will line the road to both dormitories, provide shade and will serve as wind breaks.

But the most important target was to make the children plant their own tree. As it is expressed in Genesis, 2.15 “Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.”, it is the purpose of the human being to care for his natural surroundings. With respect to this thought, all of our 22 children got a small coconut tree.

Along the road, the children digged holes and planted their own trees to care for them and observe them growing.

Our beneficiaries were amazed and proud to have their own little coconut tree. We are all looking forward to see the trees grow magnificently.

Moreover, the children also helped a lot by planting and fertilizing the new maize on our farm. Within the next months, the maize will be ripe and ready to be sold. We see it as another big step towards ROHC’s road to independence.
